Scooter Collector 1

Your Source for Scooter Collectible News!

This is a new section at ScooterGal Confidential. Many scooterists collect scooter memorabilia. With the advent of eBay, our chances of expanding collections have grown. So have the chances to pay way to much for collectibles. This column will highlight collectibles we find on our travels and let you know how to get them and how much to pay.

Motorscooter Samantha

Motor scooter Samantha is a very cool toy on many levels. First, it is a faithful radio-controlled rendering of a Vespa Rally model which comes in either pink or purple. Samantha is wearing a cute pleather jacket, sweet capri pants, and cool bowling shoes. She comes in Caucasian or African American. Another cool aspect is the R/C controller. It is a mini scooter with the bench seat as the directional control. Samantha can go frontward and backwards as well as spin on her rear wheel and pop wheelies. Even if you don't use Samantha's R/C capabilities, the controller will look cool in your collectibles cabinet. Toys R Us has Samantha readily available at $29.99 at their storefronts or via their online store. The only drawback is that you cannot race two of the same Samantha scooters against each other as the radio signals will cross. ScooterGal Confidential reader, Stacey B., says you can race the pink versus the purple scooter. There is another Scooter Samantha who rides a modern scooter that looks like a cross between a Fuji Rabbit and Yamaha Vino. Since it is on a different frequency, you can race it, also.

Snacktime Scooter

Polly Pocket is a little doll, roughly about 3 inches long who has all sorts of tiny clothing and tiny furnishings and tiny vehicles. One of which is her Snacktime Scooter. It seems that in order to afford all her cool clothes and stuff, Polly sells snacks from a trailer that she pulls with her new-style scooter which looks a lot like a Vespa ET4. Polly has an apron and extra change of clothes that she can change into before hawking her root beer floats, french fries and other snacks. The set is in bright colors and is a really cute addition to a scooter collection. I found mine at KB Toys for $7.99. Don't pay too much by buying via eBay. I made that mistake when it first came out, and regretted paying $14 for it (including shipping)!

Sunny Friction Scooters

I have noticed lots of these for sale on eBay, selling for upwards of $8. Do not pay more than $2-3 for these scooters. They are new Chinese manufactured friction scooters that resemble a Vespa or Lambretta. Friction toys are ones that are self-propelled after you roll them backwards to set their mechanism.

I have seen the Vespa scooter in various colors. Some (like the one shown here) have animal decals on them. The Lambretta scooter (graciously modeled by scooterboy Dracula) is really cool as it has a chrome-look rear rack , floor rails and a cool seat. The Lammy is about 4.5 inches long, the V mix of metal and plastic. The frams, cowls and legshield being metal.

I have purchased all of these scooters at flea markets where people sell bulk, cheap Chinese toys. Most ask $3 per scooter, but I usually offer them 2 for $5. If you have a wholesale license you can buy these super-cheap in a boxed 12-pack.
