Marion P. from the Sneaky Devils

What makes the Sneaky Devil's so dang sneaky? We check with Marion P. to find out!

Tell us about the Sneaky Devils?
The Sneaky Devils are from Sacramento, CA and have been together a little over four years and still boast four original members. We are friends, we ride together, go to shows together and take care of each other. We are an eclectic group of scooter enthusiast; Kirsten (P200s) is a daily driver, her scooters are her only mode of transportation and she rides every day, rain or shine (she kicks ass!). Amanda (P200/66 VBB) is a long distance rider, the person most likely to want to ride her scooter 10 hours to get to a show instead of trucking it (she is bad ass!). Christia (P200s) is the thrill seeker, she likes to go fast (she should have flames on her bikes, she is that hot!). Marion, thats me, most likely to visit the thrift store during a scooter show, that's why I go to so many (I am a freak-o).

How did you get started scootering?
My introduction to the scooter scene happened around the mid '90s. A lot of the bands I liked often played at scooter shows and I would go to hear the music but soon found myself drawn to the scoots. It looked like fun, so I became a regular fixture at Bay Area shows (but scoot-less). That is where I met my future husband, Norm, who helped make the scooter thing happen for me. He introduced me to my first bike, a 1958 Zundapp Bella, and I've been riding, wrenching and collecting scooters ever since.

What is the best part of scootering for you?
Long country drives, meeting fellow scooterists from all over the world, making people smile or laugh as I ride down the street on my vintage contraption, hanging out in the garage, getting grease under my nails and being a Sneaky Devil.

What do you dislike about Scootering?
The fact that I can't go to all the scooter shows I would like to. There just isnt enough time in a year to do it all!

What is the best ride/route you've ridden?
One of my favorites is the 90 plus mile loop around Lake Tahoe that we ride in the fall for Worshipping the Beast. Also, riding in the foothills or Delta region of Northern California, and anything in Portland, they have great rides in Portland.

Any scooter-related goals for 2003?
The biggest goal this year is to help get the AGSR (All Girls Scooter Rally) up and running for October in Palm Springs. We, a group of scootergals from across the country, have been working on the plans and are hoping it will be an event that is fun and worthwhile for all the girls out there interested in scooters and scootering. For more information (shameless plug) check out the yahoo group [In our LINKS section, -Ed.] We hope to have a Web page up soon with more info--another goal, aargh!

What is your dream bike?
One that runs and is registered! hahaha just kiddingI think I've given a year of my life to the DMV registering scooters. Seriously, my idea of a dream bike changes all the time but usually leans towards the strange; I dont have any brand loyalty when it comes to scooters.

What is your favorite rally?
Favorite rallies are the ones that I can't wait to talk about at the next Sneaky Devils meeting, the ones that I mark down on my calendar for next year, the ones that leave me with battle scars and an enormous sense of well being. Scootouring will always stand out in my mind because it was my first "official" riding rally and it is one of the best events in Northern California.

What does being a scootergal mean to you?
Gosh, I'm proud that I've been at it this long and hope to continue riding scooters for many years to come. It feels good to be able to say, yes that's my bike, yes I ride it, yes I can work on it and yes I'm a scootergal.

Any Advice?
To any novice riders out there, I would say make your first bike a safe and reliable one and leave the projects for later. Try not to feel pressured by other scooterist to drive too fast (or too slow), go at your own pace, wear safe gear and most of all be yourself, have fun, and don't run me off the road at the next rally (joking!)
