Chrissy from SoCal

Chrissy H. is a Lambretta Wonder Woman. We used our lasso of truth to find out her secrets.

SG: How did you get started in scootering?
I had a friend that had just got into scooters in San Diego (I was in Denver at the time) and I wanted one too (around '92). I was big into the Specials & Madness and so was my little brother. He and I both got our scooters at the same time, well, a few days apart. For me it was the ultimate fashion accessory required to be noticed at the SKA shows.

SG: Are you in any scooter clubs?
Of course. The Secret Servix SC (all ladies of course) is my life obsession. I think every scooter rally I attend I'm wearing a Servix shirt at some point. I'm also a part of the Instigators SC. They are mostly Midwest and east coast but they let me tag along. Of course I'm part of the Lambretta Club of America, I mean, HOW could I NOT be?

SG: You used to live in Norcal, now live in SoCal, and have spent time in the Denver area. How do you see scooter scenes differing around the country?
I pretty much grew up in Denver (1992 1998). That is where I got into scootering and it became my life. Basically scootering is the same where ever you go. It's the people that make the difference. It also makes it easier to scoot when scooting is convenient. In Denver, everyone lives, works and hangs out relatively in a small area. It made scootering fun because it was easy to jump on the scoot and ride to where ever. Also, I KNOW scootering isn't all about the riding, it's about the socializing too! When you have a group of people that just click, it can create a scene that is damn near perfect! Sometimes, that click happens and sometimes it doesn't. Someone once told me "Just because someone rides a scooter, doesn't mean I'm obligated to be his friend". That has a lot of truth to it. In more tight-knit scenes like Denver, it made it easier for everyone to just click.

SG: What's the best part of scootering for you?
The socializing. I'm an attention Whore. I like riding super fast and racing boys down the mountain. It makes me laugh inside when I'm flying down the mountain with my girl Nelly and there are 10 boys just trying to keep up!

SG: Any scooter-related goals for 2003?
Not really. I actually just went back to school so this might be one of those summers I take off. I go through phases every once and awhile where I get too burned out. Then, I'll come back with something new and go crazy.

SG: You're involved in the AGSR, How did that get started & why?
It was started as an idea of Marion's (Sneaky Devil). Marion, Janel, Summer and I were discussing it a year or so back at Rage and we liked the idea. It had a rocky start at first because there was some emotion involved about the location..but I think we have that under wraps. Basically, we just all wanted an excuse to go to Palm Springs & drink, lay by the pool and gossip without having to worry about the weird way girls act around men. Scooter Girls need a weekend to let loose!!

SG: Have you gone out of state or out of the country for a rally?
Definitely. Back when I lived in Denver, the scooter kids would try to hit as many rallies as possible. We went to Seattle, Portland, Lawrence-Kansas, St. Louis, Tuscan, San Francisco, Vegas. In 2001 I flew to England to go to the Isle of Wight and Mersea Island scooter rallies. I flew by MYSELF ladies and met up with local scooter kids that went out of their way to accommodate me. It was one of the most exciting experiences of my life!

SG: Any advice for novice scootergals?
Jump with two feet in, get noticed! I could never be a scooterist in the shadows. I always wanted to be recognized as a kick ass scooter rider, who happened to be a girl. Of course, I've always used the "being a girl" to my advantage. Its always more exciting to be that person everyone is reading and seeing in the scooter magazines than being the one reading it!

SG: Do you have any non-scooter related obsessions or collections?
Not really anymore. I'm not necessarily the collecting type. I used to be as obsessed with buying records--but that has all cooled off with age. Plus, Journey records aren't as cheap as they USED to be.

SG: What is your scooter-related guilty pleasure?
I feel guilty that I'm constantly surrounded by such cutie guys when I go to scooter rallies. I actually feel sorry for my non-scooter girl friends sometimes because of it. BUT, now that I'm married...I have to keep the open mouthed, drooling stares to a minimum. HA.
