Scooter Collector 7

Cool scooter stuff for the collector in you!

Vintage-look Perpetual Scooter Wall Calendar

Make everyday a scooter day...

These items have popped-up on eBay frequently, but I bumped into mine at the Santa Barbara Anthropologie store. Since the store isn't known for it's bargain-basement prices, I probably paid too much when I forked over $30 for it, but I was in a good mood and had-to-have-it, so I splurged. You can probably find it cheaper via eBay, but keep in mind how much I paid and try for much lower.
If you have read previous editions of this column, you may recall our review of a Thank You card set with the same graphic of three women on fender-light Vespas. This calendar measuea about 10.5 x 14.5 inches and has manual dials that you turn to set the day, date and month on the calendar. Thus, you can keep it forever and look upon it fondly. It's a great addition to your garage, office or kitchen, although with the porous-nature of the paper, it could absorb grease easily. Keep it away from moisture and grease and you should enjoy it for many years.

NewRay Roadrider Collecton Scooter

New-Ray toys has come out with a collection of small motorcycle models which include a Yamaha YZ426F, a Honda CBR600F4 and a Moto Guzzi V10 Centauro. In this list of uber-bikes is included a "Scooter." Nowhere on the packaging does it say Vespa, but it is a P-series model that comes in silver, black, blue and red. I've seent them on eBay and at scooter shops. I already have a blue one, but decided to pick up this red version which was hiding on the shelves of an independent toy store for $7.99 which is a realistic price. I can't remember what I paid for it at a scooter shop and I believe that they were going for more on eBay when they debuted.

The scooter has some cool details such as a chrome front fender crash bar and 2 chrome mirrors. You can also add a watch battery to get the headlight and taillight to work. Inexpensive excellent buy for those sccooter club Secret Santa parties.

Bunny on Ice Cream Scooter Shop

While strict scooter collectors may pooh-pooh at me adding this, I couldn't help but love this $2.99 bunny on a scooter-bound ice cream shop. Its a plastic wind-up toy that I found at an independent toy store. When wound, the rear wheels move the scooter while the ice cream and umbrella spin. Its cute, but may not stand up to the rigors of young kids. Better to save it for kids over 4 or for yourself. An inexpensive addition to a liberal collection.

Meri Meri "Classic Girl On Scooter" birthday card

I frequently troll through a local chi-chi-la-la grocery store in San mateo called Draeger's. They have a full-service gourmet grocery downstairs and a fancy restaurant and housewares store upstairs. Draegers is a good source for unusual, yet pricey boutique stuff and I am usually able to find something with scooters on it more often than not.

My recent find was this birthday card from Meri Meri which is a local card manufacturer. It has a cute beige & blue spotted background with a paper cut-out girl on a scooter. the girl has a smart striped outfit, and isn't wearing a helmet, but who cares when she is this cute? An organza ribbon-cum-scarf completes her outfit. All-in-all a cutie little gift for the girlie scooter in your or that you know. The bad news is that this cute card retails for around $5. Draegers is never a deal, so I warily payed $5.50 for it. But you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere. you can check out the Meri Meri site for retail outlets or just to see their cute cards.
