Sock Monkeys on a Scooter...it could happen!

Sock Monkeys Ride Vespa with Sidecar

Thanks to Gretchen and Annika for letting us know about the super-cute Rocko and Spanky Go to a Party. Written by sisters Kara and Jenna LaReau this children's book tells the story of two sock monkey twins who are invited to a birthday party. They pick out the perfect present and ensemble to wear and show up to the party to find a real surprise of their own. The cool thing about the book is that the sock monkeys have a stylized vintage Vespa and sidecar. The illustration style, color and font choice reflects a homey 1950's feel, while Rocko and Spanky have more modern dialog. The end of the book has a quick how-to on wrapping a gift that kids will enjoy. A sequel is planned, entitled Rocko and Spanky Have a Visitor which will feature a sandwich recipe, and more of the scooter, we hope! The book is a great way to indulge the kid in you while at the same time is a great gift for the little scooterists in the house. It is geared for ages 3-7. The book is published by Harcourt Children's books and retails at $15.00. I found it on the Web at Amazon for $10.15 and at Barnes & Noble for $12.00. Follow the link below to buy the book and save at Amazon.

On a side note, I had to inquire as to whether the authors were scooterists. Although they are not, Kara LaReau said, "I really do love scooters, and had a great time researching them for the book. I took numerous photos of vintage Vespas and Lambrettas at antique shows, pored over all sorts of scootering websites, and bought some great books on the history of scooters (I also got hooked on the vintage advertising for them). It was really hard not to get carried away whenever I was drawing Rocko and Spanky's scooter because I just love the designs and all of the little details of each model."

Pink Panther: Still Cool

I received this cool patch as a gift from Lori B. It is part of a theme that scoot-friendly artist Shag has produced to celebrate the Pink Panther's 40th Anniversary. While we all know that the Panther is cool, how super-cool is this patch of him riding a Shag-esque Vespa in complementary pink and purple? The teal background and pink-n-purple color scheme may shy away some guys who think it is too girly, but I say- embrace the Panther and proudly display it next to all of your other rally patches. At $3.50, it's a steal for this 3.5 inch patch. Get it online at www.posterpop.com before they sell out and you can only get them at overpriced resellers.

Just in Time For Summer

Scooters look like old Vespas & Lammy J-Series!

Thanks to Tina and Thovas from the Scooter BBS for making me aware of this groovy scooter-themed bathing suit. I picked it up at Marshall's for $19.99. It is white with stylized scooters in different colors. Made by Liquid Girl, you may have to scour for it. We tried three Marshall's and only found one medium and one small.
